PATIENTS' STORY

Alex

Alex had an incredible story.
In 2005, Alex had been found living in a cave, tethered with animals.  Abandoned by his parents because he was not a normal baby, he was cared for by his grandparents.
He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and was thought to have clubfeet, but it was discovered in surgery that his tendons had been constricted because of the way he mimicked the animals in the cave.

In 2007, with the help of Dr. Jorge Iñiguez we reconnected with Alex, who is now living at an INNFA facility for abandoned children. He has daily therapeutic horse exercise, which has helped improve his balance, muscle strength, flexibility, joint movement and posture.

Andrea Chalan – 4yrs. old

Andrea had a beautiful face with brown eyes and the longest eyelashes.
She had skipped into the hospital with a big smile, and seemed healthy. But when she opened her mouth, the gaping hole of a cleft palate would forever inhibit her ability to live a normal life.
Her godmother, who cared for Andrea accompanied the four year old through the entire surgical process.
When she had come to recovery her godmother began to cry in happiness with immense gratitude. She felt that PCCHF volunteers were "god's angels sent from heaven". She believed that Andrea would now lead a much better life.

Ruben Cuaical –13 yrs. old

Ruben had deformed earlobes, the condition called microtia.  Although young, patient Ruben was able to grasp the importance of the surgery.
In recovery he shone with happiness as he explained he would no longer be ridiculed for his ear deformity.
PCCHF has given Ruben the opportunity to grow through his teenage and young adult years without discrimination.
